SOLAS Services

Xtreme Freight is proud to announce our serviceability of SOLAS Verified Gross Mass (VGM) regulations.

In relation to exporters of LCL sea freight cargo, Xtreme Freight can offer the weighing of cargo with a fully verified, calibrated and accredited scale system.

Whilst there are no official requirements for LCL cargo and the responsibility for the submission of the VGM lies with the shipper, in the sea freight LCL environment space is purchased per cubic metre from the carrier. The carrier becomes the shipper as recorded on the Master Bill of Lading issued by the shipping line, therefore becoming responsible for VGM.

Xtreme Freight now has the facilities to weigh all exports shipments or import shipments requiring repack and redelivery. All bookings and delivery of cargo needs to be made one day prior to the official LCL cut off.

VGM Administration

For VGM Administration the new process requires that the container gross mass must be verified by the shipper in one of the two following ways:

  1. Weighing the packed container using calibrated and certified equipment, or
  2. Weighing all packages and cargo items including the mass of pallets, dunnage and other securing material to be packed in the container and adding the tare mass of the container to the sum of the single masses. This must be done using a certified method approved by the competent authority of the state in which packing of the container was completed. Australian Maritime Safety Agency (AMSA) Marine Order 42 and 44 currently address such issues, but do not take into account the new SOLAS requirements.

Xtreme Freight is pleased to add this service to our growing list of value-added freight services.
